PendEl Services

Located in the heart of The Research Triangle, NC, and close to Duke University, UNC- Chapel Hill, and NC State University, PendEl has informally provided technology services over the years to students and faculty. We’re proud to offer a variety of custom services to institutions and agencies nationwide, including:

Precision Laser Welding

Using our Laserstar 8800 Series 6000W Peak Laser Welder, PendEl can often perform that one, specific, mission-critical weld required to effect repair or implement a prototype design.

RF Induction Heating and Brazing in Atmosphere (wet/dry H2, N2)

PendEl can perform a variety of heat treating and atmosphere brazing (cusil, copper/gold eutectics, etc.) operations with our 15kW Ultraflex RF Induction Heating System. It’s perfect for many applications where a furnace treatment is impractical or too costly.

Furnace Operations

PendEl has a five-inch pusher furnace that can operate at 1200 degrees C, as well as a Camco vacuum batch furnace and a Camco atmosphere batch furnace, both good to nearly 1600 degrees C.

Design

Our expert team combines experience with sophisticated computer modeling to design state-of-the-art TWTs, electron guns, and related subassemblies.

Manufacturing

Our modern Raleigh, NC facility possesses the latest (and earliest) fabrication technology, including vacuum and atmosphere batch brazing furnaces, a push-through atmosphere furnace, RF induction brazing system, 6000W-peak laser welder, double-vacuum exhaust stations, and a small but well-equipped machine shop.

In addition, we are in close proximity to local shops that provide plating, anodizing, chemical cleaning, and production quantity, sulfur-free machining services. Our seal area is equipped with a variety of measurement and fabrication tools including tool maker’s microscope, precision drop gauges, resistance welders, microscopes, and a state-of-the-art helium mass spec leak detector.

Testing

Our test and processing infrastructure comprises several CW and pulse high voltage/power test stands, Agilent scalar and vector network analyzers, RF sweep generators, time domain relectometer, RF power meters, and an extensive variety of high-power couplers and loads.

Every device we build or repair undergoes rigorous electrical testing, extended processing, and aging to ensure optimal performance, durability, and longevity.

Repair

The reliable refurbishment of klystrons and traveling-wave tubes (TWTs) has been a core activity since 1994. Thorough mechanical analysis, attention to detail, and rigorous electrical testing and processing enhance the life and performance of any device we repair or rebuild.
